Following the Senate GOP Luncheon, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) (@senatemajldr) answered the question, “A majority of Americans disagree with your approach. They want you to wait. Does that give you pause?” regarding McConnell’s earlier statements that the Senate will move forward with filling Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat before the November 3 election. McConnell responded, “As all of us have pointed out, we have an obligation under the Constitution, should we chose to take advantage of it, with a president of the same party as the Senate, to advance the nomination. And we will certainly do that this year.” The reporter followed, “Do you understand why many Americans view this as a double standard?” McConnell said, “I can only repeat, we have an obligation under the Constitution, should we chose to take advantage of it, to fill the vacancy and I can assure you that’s very likely to happen.” See more through the link in our bio.

  1. I could on some level respect the savage gamesmanship of the GOP going back on their word if they admitted this is purely in their own self interest. What I can’t respect is these flimsy after the fact qualifications they’ve made to their argument to justify what is clearly naked hypocrisy.

  2. This shouldn’t be a matter of arguments.. if it’s not constitutional it would have been a different issue, fulfilling what’s under law when does that become a political crisis, enough of all these far ‘left democrat whiners..fill the seat Mr president.

  3. So an obligation today, but not an obligation in 2016???

  7. That’s the way the cookie crumbles folks. Win the senate and the executive if you want your way.

  8. If it’s truly an “obligation,” it wouldn’t seem like you could “choose to take advantage.”

  9. Fuck party politics. Our Democracy is a stake. This should be terrifying for anyone waving the American flag.

  10. Polls, ha. It’s laughable when these reporters bring up polls to lead a question, point or push their narrative. Polls are subjective and fluctuate and often bias. Anytime polls are brought up the questions that should come to mind are who conducted the poll and who participated or who was the target participants.

  11. Not only the empty Supreme Court seat, nut, there are still a number of Federal judge positions that need to be filled to ensure the right to a speedy trial.

  12. So.. Obama didn’t have an obligation under the constitution? Just trying to figure out why only republicans have the obligation to fill scotus seats 🤔
