A book retracing the history of the village of Espédaillac, the history of people and landscapes
Fruit of the work carried out by the municipal heritage commission accompanied by a holder of a master’s degree in heritage and a doctoral student in archeology, this work presents in a chronological sequence and easy to read for all, the highlights of Espédaillac while at the same time. including in the evocation of the main lines of the history of France.
With the work of man, the omnipresent stone has made it possible to build remarkable buildings, low walls around plots and paths, dry stone huts without forgetting the limestone monoliths, testimonies of the dolmens that punctuate the Causses du Quercy.. Although imperceptible, the water present everywhere in the basement, determined the spatial organization of the village, all in length. It gave rise to the digging of lakes and the alignments of wells and wells-caselles in favor of an underground water vein. The two large lakes of the village, recently restored, underline the importance of this precious resource for both man and livestock.
As for the landscapes of the town, shaped by the breeding of the spectacle sheep known as “the caussenarde”, they constitute visible elements of the heritage and history of the village.
