The Senate Judiciary Committee voted today to move Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court out of committee in a 12-10 vote. The 10 votes not in favor of Judge Barrett’s nomination were not “nay’s” but rather no vote at all. The ten Democratic members of committee did not appear in the committee room to cast a decision.

Later, the Senate Democrats held a news conference on the steps of the Capitol explaining their decision. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), the ranking member on the committee, said, “The Democratic Members of the Judiciary committee did not have the votes to defeat Judge Barrett in committee. At that point, there was no further reason to participate in a committee process that has been used to rush this nominee forward.”

Sen. Feinstein added, “I will be voting against Judge Barrett on the floor.”

Following the committee vote, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) noted the absence of the Democratic members and said, “I just find this to be a surreal environment were in where our Democratic colleagues announced yesterday they’re going to boycott one of the most important votes this committee will have, probably during our entire senatorial tenure.”

Will the days return where the parties will work together for the American people instead of just spreading fear and panic. You have no evidence that the court will do these things and cannot predict how an individual justice will rule on any given case. As an American I am so tired of governmental disfunction…you can’t even support an extremely qualified person.
